Our General Meeting will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Cooncats Pottery - Ron & Denise Dvoretz - 51 Cove Bridge Rd. Meeting time is 7 pm. We'll also have a timely presentation by Gwynne Rukenbrod - Executive Director of HandMade in America.

The topic of Gwynne's presentation "How to Engage a Visitor in Your Studio"

Do you like having visitors in your studio, but don't know how to engage them? Do you want to participate in your area's studio tours - but don't know what to do to prep your studio? Do you know the right questions to ask a potential customer to get them to buy? If you are curious about the answers to these questions, come and participate in a free workshop.

Also - be sure to bring your old tour signs - we are re-formatting them with a newer, easier look. See you there!

Handmade in American mini lab

CRAFT LABS

HandMade will present a series of free lectures to be held on the second Tuesday of every month from 6 to 8 pm. These Craft Labs will address emerging and mid-career craft artists' needs. The lectures will be taught by HandMade's new Executive Director, Gwynne Rukenbrod.
Please call 828-252-0121 or email Jami Wilds to confirm your spot for the upcoming lectures. Lectures will be held at HandMade in America's office located at 125 South Lexington Avenue in Asheville.

May 10 - Critiques

Artists often don't get together to formally critique each others work, but it can be one of the best learning experiences. Hearing what someone else sees when they look at your work gives you new insight to what you make. Come participate in a formal critique of your work with HandMade's Executive Director, Gwynne Rukenbrod. Everyone who wishes to participate must bring one piece for critique.

American Craft Week 2011

Call for CRAFT ARTISTS – get involved in American Craft Week:
Register early and join the celebration!
This year's American Craft Week celebration is to be held October 7-16, 2011, and will bring together individuals, small businesses and organizations from all fifty states in recognition of the countless ways handmade objects enrich our daily lives and contribute to our national aesthetic and economy.
Get Involved!
You are invited to be part of American Craft Week. If you create, sell, display, promote, collect or just plain love American craft, please join the celebration. Click on Participants/Events at www.americancraftweek.com to find a listing of what's happening by state. If you would like to become a participant and host your own event, click on the "Get Involved" tab at the website to sign up. It can cost as little as $25 and gives your event national exposure.
Last year, North Carolina had the most registered participants nationwide! Here in Western North Carolina we are working hard to do more in 2011. For inclusion of your event in printed material such as rack cards, there will be an additional nominal fee and a May 31, 2011 deadline for information. Inclusion in web-based publicity is on-going; however you must register through the American Craft Week website first. Contact Sherry Masters at Grovewood Gallery for more information on WNC events. Email: sherry@grovewood.com.
